Aug 3, Caring for Thinning Hair

From Celebrity Stylist THOM PRIANO | Article Sponsored by ROGAINE©
Celebrity stylist and men's grooming expert, Thom Priano of The GARREN New York Salon has worked with the world's top photographers, fashion companies and magazines to create the most stylish looks for male and female celebrities from the worlds of Hollywood, sports, music and fashion. Thinning Hair? The first thing I tell my clients with thinning hair is that I understand,? says Priano. ?It's an emotional experience and as a ROGAINE© user myself, I understand exactly what they're going through.? ?Hereditary hair loss is very common in men. In fact, up to one third of all men experience it -- and for many men, it starts in their early 20s.? An expert in men's grooming and treating thinning hair, Priano offers the following advice to his male clients with thinning hair / hair loss:

Click here for Tom Priano's Bio

For my clients with hair loss, I suggest Men's ROGAINE© Foam. It helps stop hair loss and is the only FDA-approved foam that is clinically proven to regrow hair. ?My clients who use it consistently twice a day everyday have seen improvement in as quickly as four months? and I have been using it myself for two years and I definitely notice the difference,? adds Priano.

?Fine, thinning hair is already fragile and can be further damaged by over washing, over brushing or over combing,? says Priano. Try these surefire tips to keep the hair you have healthy and strong: When washing thinning hair, take extra care. Avoid aggressive scrubbing, which roughs up the hair cuticle. Instead, gently massage a mild, volumizing shampoo into the scalp and follow with a light conditioner. (Conditioner smoothes down the cuticle to help protect hair against further damage.) Then, gently towel dry. When choosing a brush for thinning hair, look for a plastic brush with rounded tips (despite popular belief, plastic with rounded tips is more gentle than bristles.) Protect your hair and scalp from the sun. Exposure to UV makes hair more brittle, so look for UV protectant styling products and wear a hat when you are in the direct sun. This will protect your scalp from burning as well.?A healthy diet and vitamin supplements can help too,? says Priano. ?Eat a balanced diet and take a good multi-vitamin every day.? Look for foods that are high in protein (like fish, eggs, beans and yogurt).

?There are a few different ways to cut and style men's hair to help it appear thicker,? says Priano. He suggests: A cropped, layered cut for straight hair A short to medium layered cut for curly hairRemember: everyone's hair is different, so work closely with your stylist for a look that fits you best.

?If you are thinning on top, don't over blow dry the hair. Instead, keep it close to the scalp (like I do) and let it dry naturally.?

Volumizing Shampoo? If you have thinning hair, there are many hair care and styling products that work really well. Anything with a "V" that adds VOLUME to the hair will make it appear thicker (shampoo, conditioner, gel, mousse, cream, pomade or spray),? says Priano. ?I apply ROGAINE© to my scalp and massage it in first, then I finish with my styling product.?

?Hair color can also play a big part in masking hair loss,? says Priano. ?Darker shades play up the contrast between hair and scalp, while lighter shades that are closer to your skin tone can actually help camouflage thinning hair,? adds Priano. Tips for Everyday ROGAINE© Use

ROGAINE© can be an easy and simple part of your daily grooming routine. ?My daily routine is just a quick shower, towel dry my hair, apply Men's ROGAINE© Foam to the scalp and follow with a styling cream. Then, I let my hair dry naturally. At night, when I brush my teeth, I just apply the product and I'm off to bed?? says Priano.

ROGAINE© can be used on color treated or permed hair. ?The only thing I suggest is not to use it on the day you have the actual treatment, if you are concerned about scalp irritation.?

In clinical testing, Men's ROGAINE© Foam regrew hair in 85% of men after four months of twice daily use.

Oct 26, Death of a friend leads to hair loss

by Sandra
(Austin, Texas, USA)

I've noticed past, extreme sudden hair loss a bit after minor surgery, child birth twice, as well as crash diets. I'm 33 years old and have pretty fine hair in general.

This August, my best friend died unexpectedly in a car crash. The grief was overwhelming and I was bereaved for months.

Now, about three weeks ago my hair began suddenly coming out in handfuls again.

I was diagnosed in the past with Telegan Effluvium, so I'm not worried about it. Basically, my hair will shed for a month or two (sometimes longer) and it will get very thin. Then it will begin to grow again.

It looks awful with long hair for me, so when I go through these stressful times with hair loss, I cut it to chin length.

Basic Ideas To Prevent Hair Loss

Hair loss is a sensitive subject among several males and females and not many believe they've got control of it. Several various components make this occur in people, a few of the most common are thyroid disease, pregnancy, several kinds of medication such as birth control, stress, and inadequate iron or protein in one's diet.

There is good news for those showing signs of hair loss or fretting about losing their hair in that there are good prevention tips to reduce this risk. Protein and iron deficiencies are often linked with balding, so you have to eat right to avoid this.

The Food Pyramid can be used as an example, however you are not sure that you are receiving everything required, speak with your doctor to see if you should be using vitamin supplements. An additional technique for prevention is taking care of your hair correctly.

Most people do not realize the damage that too much styling and coloring will ruin their hair. Nevertheless, as soon as the hair is totally damaged, it's a possibility that it might be lost indefinitely.

To stay away from this, carefully handle your hair. Allowing it to air dry is ideal, yet if you can't do this, pat it carefully dry in a towel. Remaining stress-free can slow down the loss of hair.

It is imperative to set aside time to relieve and cope with stress even though this may be hard to achieve. Anxiety and stress affects every aspect of your well being and can even result in hair loss.

If you're under a lot of tension, you may pull on your hair and that also affects hair loss. Last but not least, it is necessary to stay away from medicines that have been verified to make you lose your hair.

Several of the usual medications that result in hair loss are contraceptive pills, acne formulas, blood thinners, as well as medicines that treat cancer. That doesn't mean you won't sometimes have to take one of these medicines, but you can try to avoid them whenever possible.

Reduce the risk for hair loss at the first sign of losing your hair by getting an over-the-counter hair loss kit which will promote hair growth.

Oct 27, Dermmatch Tips

by ANDY DURAN
(USA)

Dermmatch works great if you're just starting to thin out, this product allowed me to live several years appearing as if I had a full head of hair. People couldn't tell being inches away. I spent several nights with women that had no idea that I was loosing my hair. (so you don't leave any accidental rub-off on their pillow case, put your T-shirt over the pillow after she falls asleep).

Eventually when the loss increases, it becomes noticeable due to the lack of hair in some spots and then you have to shave or seek other alternatives since Dermmatch needs some hair around to work well. I found the best technique to avoid rub-off was to apply it dry, apply in a well-lit room, (check your cover-up job both in natural lighting and artificial lighting), apply using a mirror over a towel used for that purpose, once applied, comb through hair allowing all excess dust to fall onto the towel, repeat as needed. Fold your towel to avoid a mess. (the towel method is by far the cleanest unless you're willing to make a mess out of your bathroom sink and surroundings). After applying, wash your face with face wash to ensure that your face is free of dust.

Additional tips: The Roman-gladiator hair cut works great with dermmatch, it's easier to work with and you get the best results. The towel method described above and the gladiator haircut offer the best results when it comes to avoiding rub-off, it is almost non-existant unless you rub your scalp with your finger hard.
Dermmatch is cheap considering how long a container lasts.
Cons: depending on the material of your shower floor or bathtub, it may become a pain to clean, it comes off, it's just a pain, but worth the psychological/social gratification.

Nov 16, Just When You Think Life Is Amazing.....

by Alex
(New York, NY, USA)

Hair Loss Guy

Hair Loss Guy

I never had a good roll of the genetic dice. I had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and anxiety disorder at eighteen. I had been in therapy since I was a child. To compound that, I've been treated for high blood pressure since I was about nineteen. But none of these conditions made me feel any less than anyone else. Hair loss has caused me to feel worthless and become a complete wreck. Here's my story....

2010 was shaping up to be the best year of my life. I had been accepted to a Master's program at a local university for library science. I was tutoring part-time. And I began dating the most amazing woman I've ever known. Everything was perfect. Sure, I was still living at home at 26, but I was making some money, getting my degree, and finally enjoying a successful relationship. And then it all came crashing down. I don't know exactly what started the crash. At the end of June, I signed up for two graduate classes for the summer semester. It was stressful. One of the classes was a literature class and I was constantly studying and working on my papers. However, I still made time to see my girlfriend. Everything seemed to be going fine, albeit the stress level was high from school.

Then, on July 24th, I went over my girlfriend's house. She sat me down on the couch and told me she thought she was pregnant. I was completely shocked. We ended up heading to the local Rite Aid pharmacy to pick up a pregnancy test. I sat on her bed, while she went into the bathroom and took the test. The result was negative. I was relieved. My life wasn't dramatically altered...or so I thought.

Around the same time as the pregnancy scare, I switched to a new blood pressure medication. It was a beta blocker. A few days later, on July 26th, I began freaking out, as hairs were falling from my head. I was going bald.

I went to my general practitioner and my psychiatrist, and both assumed that the reaction was just from the medication. I switched back to my old blood pressure pill. Still, hair kept falling off my head.

A week or two later, I was over at my girlfriend's brother's house. We were playing football. As I exercised, I noticed at least 20 hairs came out as I sweated under the August sun. I realized that when I sweat, I'd lose hairs in the frontal hairline, so I stopped exercising. I barely even left the house.

The hair loss seemed to be slowing down in August, while I avoided exercise or heat, until the school year started on August 26. I signed up for 4 classes. I quickly had to drop one. One day when taking the subway back from home a big clump of hair fell out. I was mortified. I started missing classes. I made an appointment with a dermatologist but it was too long a wait before the appointment. I called my sister's dermatologist (she has acne) and immediately made an appointment. It couldn't have come any sooner, as the night before the appointment, my scalp looked relatively fine, despite the hair loss, but upon waking that day, long strands of hair were falling out of my hairline and my hairline was completely wrecked.

The doctor proscribed Rogaine, Extina, and Clobetasol. He was unsure of the condition, but gave me steroid injections into my scalp. The thinning slowed down noticeably afterwards. I went back to him 9 days later after I noticed a little bit more thinning. He injected me with more shots. The hair seemed to be growing in thick. My hairline was fine. After about two weeks or so, the hair started to thin. I never felt my hair as thin as this before. Also, strands kept falling out. And not just in the hairline. Hair is falling out diffusely from along my side and back as well as the front and center. The doctor ran an autoimmune test and the tests came back normal. He asked if I wanted to test my scalp, but I refused because I was afraid of scarring. The next week I came back and he said it was likely male pattern baldness.

Right now I continue to take the medicines he proscribed. I went to my psychiatrist today and though my hair feels thin, the doctor (who has male pattern baldness) says my hair looks fine. I plan to start taking Inhairit pills, shampoo, and conditioner to add to it. Also, I've started taking Valium to calm my nerves so I can function in daily life.

I'm just afraid that I'll lose everything along with my hair. My overemphasis on hair loss has caused some tension with my girlfriend. I try not to talk about it, but it's always present in my mind. I cannot concentrate in school. I plan to take the next semester off. I just hope I can get my life together again.

Nov 16, Complete Baldness

I've had many traumatic events in my life: 3 bouts with cancer, multiple surgeries, a husband who left me when I was diagnosed (after 19 yrs),a very nasty divorce, 3 family deaths, severe adrenal fatigue... All of my body hair fell out, everything, everywhere. I had a aurgery as recently as 10 months ago. I've been completely bald for 2 years. I am now 50. My hair keeps starting to grow in but quickly falls out. I was contemplating having a hair restoration procedure but my doctors advised waiting. Any ideas? Thank-you.

Editor's Comments,

Hello there. Sorry to hear about your condition but just to let you know that you are not alone. There are millions of hair loss sufferers that share the same plight with you. Be strong and you will sure to overcome these tests.

As for your hair condition, I would strongly suggest listening to your doctor's advice in not doing anything now until he or she thinks you are ready. It will be quite tough growing back the hairs and also hair restoration doesn't seem to be a good option for your case as you will have to further endow more surgical procedures and medications.

Many people with your condition opt for hair prosthesis or hair wigs because it's a durable option. High quality wigs nowadays are very natural looking and unless inspected up real close, nobody can actually tell the difference. I do think that this is a more feasible option for you considering the fact that your body might not be strong enough now to support healthy hair growth. Maybe you can use this as a temporary remedy for hair loss until you recover?

Hair Falling Out

Hair Falling Out

Hi.

I first noticed that my hair line will start to recede when I was 19 years old. Today I'm almost 23 and in the 4 year since I noticed it has only receded a bit on both sides of the forehead. Every year I noticed a bit of change but really not much.

But.

This summer I went to the US to work a summer job. Before I left for the US, I had some exams I had to pass for college. They put a lot of weight on me, I had to study like 1000 pages in 2 weeks. Then my teachers lied to me about taking the exams and so on. So I was stressed out about that. Then during the summer I worked 90 days with no days off, every day I would get up at 5 am and I would work 12-13 hours a day. During which mid July I got very sick, and worked with a fever and heavy back pain for 10 days. It was hell. I got better by the 1st of August.

Then all was fine until mid Sept, when I noticed that there was a slight change in volume of my hair. I wasn't as dense as before. When I got back home at the 20th of Sept. The first shower I took my bath tub was filled with hair.

I've never lost so much hair in the shower. But I thought ok, this might be something like a change of a climate or something. Then I would style my hair one way. The next week I had trouble styling it the same way. Then I would style it another way, two weeks after that I would have trouble styling that way too.

Then took a bath one day and noticed my tub was filled with hair. I have never seen so much hair in my life in a bath tub. Now you could see my scalp through my hair this was never the case before. I was very paranoid about my hair because of the slight recession and would have my fingers through it all the time. I knew the volume and such. I was shedding like crazy I would run my fingers through my head I would have like 10-15 hairs in it.

The shedding stopped at the very end of Oct. But I lost so much hair in such a short time. Every one that sees me asks me what happened to my hair. Am I losing my hair?
The hairs do have the white bulbs, those are quite visible. My problem is that the hair has thinned on top the most, the sides have thinned too, but the back not so much. But it has thinned too. Hair falls out when I run my fingers there too.

I spend a lot of time looking at photos. This has happened in such a short time I'm freaked out. My local dermatologist told me it?s MPB it must have been going on for quite some time. I tried to tell her this has happened so sudden. She said that is not so, I just didn't notice it. I went to a hair specialist he did a trichogram and said a lot of hair are in a telogenized state, from the top and the back too. But he didn't offer much advice, just said he thinks things are gonna stabilize.

I'm thinking this is TE, but I'm not sure because I had a very slight recession. But there is no chance I had been thinning so bad for so long because I had my hair cut short 4 months ago, shorter than now and used hair gel to style it and I didn't notice anything like this. Nor did anyone say something to me. Nor did anyone say something to me about hair loss a month ago. Now everyone is asking me.

The hair line has not changed at all it has thinned the same as the rest of the scalp. I even see short hairs all over the scalp. Along the hair line I see some very small hairs here and there, and some slightly bigger ones.
Someone offer some advice if you can please. Thank you

Editor?s Comments,

Hi there, like most cases of sudden hair loss, it?s often related to an abrupt change of your hair growth cycle. There are many reasons for that and it could be related to stress that you are facing in college or probably due to you falling ill all the way back in July.

Usually the sudden hair loss will only occur after 2-3 months after the period of ?shock? and for your case, it does fit with the time that you fall sick. During that time, large amounts of hair will shut down and enter the Telogen phase and will rest until they are ready to fall out 2-3 months later. The hair loss can be tremendous if you are having serious acute Telogen Effluvium and you can notice many hairs falling about.

In most cases, the extreme hair loss will cease and return to the normal rate and if everything is well, you should notice the parts that you lost your hair slowly grow back up again. It will take some time for the hair to grow but you should feel consoled that it?s highly unlikely a permanent situation. Just keep calm and try to relax more. Do some routine scalp massage and keep a healthy lifestyle and that will help improve hair growth.

Aug 4, Managing Thinning Hair in Women

From Celebrity Stylist THOM PRIANO | Article Sponsored by ROGAINE©
Celebrity stylist and men's grooming expert, Thom Priano of The GARREN New York Salon has worked with the world's top photographers, fashion companies and magazines to create the most stylish looks for male and female celebrities from the worlds of Hollywood, sports, music and fashion. ?I see hair loss in my salon every day,? says Priano. ?When a woman first starts to notice hair loss, the experience is incredibly emotional. Hair is a woman's crowning glory -- but unlike men, women don't expect to lose their hair, says Priano.

Hair Thinning In Women

The first thing I tell the client is that she's not alone. In fact, one in four women experience hereditary hair loss -- and by age 40, 40% of women show some degree of thinning hair, he adds.

An expert in women's styling and treating thinning hair, Priano offers the following advice to his female clients with thinning hair / hair loss:

Normally we lose between 50 to 100 hairs a day -- but a consistent loss of 150 plus hairs is considered significant hair loss. Since women's hair loss is more diffuse than men's, they tend not to notice just one spot.

By the time most women notice thinning hair, they have already lost at least 50% of their hair. ?It's important to seek treatment as soon as you notice the first signs of hair loss, such as more hair on your brush, pillowcase, or in the bathroom drain.?

It's important to note the difference between Female Pattern Hair Loss and cosmetic loss. If you notice hair falling out with the bulb attached, this is considered true hair loss, which is different from the cosmetic loss that results from shedding split ends.

Female Pattern Hair Loss is, by far, the most common and permanent form of hair loss, accounting for 95% of all hair loss in women. Women's ROGAINE? is the ONLY FDA approved treatment clinically proven to help stop Female Pattern Hair Loss.

Other factors such as hormones from pregnancy or a thyroid condition, crash dieting, and certain medications have been shown to cause temporary hair loss (Telogen Effluvium). However, if you have hereditary hair loss in your family, your hair may not grow back as thick as it was before the temporary loss.

Choosing The Right Products: ?For my clients with hair loss, I suggest Women's ROGAINE?,? says Priano. It's the ONLY brand FDA-approved to regrow hair in women.

?If you have thinning hair, there are many hair care and styling products that really help make hair appear thicker. Look for anything with a "V" that adds VOLUME to the hair (shampoo, conditioner, gel, mousse, cream, or spray) says Priano. ?However, Women's ROGAINE? is the only product that is FDA-approved to regrow hair.

When choosing a brush or comb for thinning hair, look for a wide tooth comb or plastic brush with rounded tips (despite popular belief, plastic with rounded tips is more gentle than sharp bristles.)

?There are different ways to cut and style your hair to help it appear thicker, says Priano. Layered cuts can add volume to your hair -- whether it's curly, wavy or straight. Stick with minimal layers, rather than heavy ones that can look flat.Consider cutting deep bangs to help mask thinning hair on the top of the head.Try a zig-zag part and a ?messy? style.Remember, everyone's hair is different, so work closely with your stylist for a look that fits you best.

?Hair color can also play a big part in masking hair loss,? says Priano. ?Darker shades play up the contrast between hair and scalp, while lighter shades that are closer to your skin tone can actually help camouflage thinning hair,? adds Priano, who recommends highlights. ?Coloring your mane also expands the hair shaft which makes hair appear thicker,? says Priano.

Women Hair Thinning

Women's ROGAINE can be used on color treated or permed hair. The only thing I suggest is not to use ROGAINE on the day you have the actual treatment, if you are worried about scalp irritation. You can blow dry thinning hair but don't over blow dry, and try to use a medium to low setting. If you are thinning on top, try not to blow dry hair away from the root. A diffuser can also help give shape to thinning hair. For the best result, Priano recommends letting hair dry naturally so it lays closer to the scalp.?Fine, thinning hair is already fragile and can be further damaged by over washing, over brushing or over combing,? says Priano. Try these surefire tips to keep the hair you have healthy and strong: Gently wash hair with a gentle, volumizing shampoo and follow with a lightweight conditioner. Avoid tangling which roughs up the hair cuticle.

Did you know the cuticles on damaged or thinning hair are like shingles on a rooftop. If you don't use conditioner, they rub back and forth creating more damage, which could lead to more hair loss from breakage. Conditioner smoothes them down to protect hair against further damage. Just choose a lightweight conditioner that won't weigh hair down.

The Causes of Thinning Hair and Treatment For Hair Loss

There are a number of different things that can cause thinning hair and loss. Some include hormonal problems, depression, stress, unhealthy eating habits, drugs, and some types of medical conditions. Poor or excessive hygiene can also play a role. Many people don't realize that washing hair every single day can dry it out and cause it to fall out. Some women may even experience hair loss after giving birth. There is no leading cause, and many people suffer from loss of hair for different reasons.

Some medicines are believed to play a role. Blood thinners, medicines that are used for gout, birth control pills, anti-depressants, and chemotherapy treatments are thought to cause hair loss. Vitamin A can even be a cause if used too much. Those suffering from such side effects need to talk to their doctors before stopping their medication, since it's never a good idea to simply stop taking medicine---especially when it's needed.

Some illnesses and infections can cause thinning hair as well. Children can even lose hair from having fungal infections. Fortunately, it can easily be treated with anti-fungal medication. Some diseases have underlying side effects that may cause hair to fall out.

Diabetes and lupus, for instance, are two well known diseases that can cause such problems. It is believed that hair thinning and loss of hair may even be early signs of diseases, therefore anyone suffering from hair loss needs to find out the underlying cause.

Fortunately, there are treatments out there that can stop hair from falling out and prevent baldness. Most people have heard of Rogaine before, and there are other medicines as well, both over the counter and prescription. Some products are for men and some for women.

Some hair loss products need to be taken orally while others applied on the scalp. Before trying any though, a physician should always be consulted.

Some people prefer using natural treatments. While there's not a lot of known medical or scientific evidence that natural, alternative solutions work, many sufferers swear by them. There are shampoos, topical lotions, conditioners, and herbal remedies that are used by some as hair loss products.

There is a lot of information on the internet about different types of products as well as testimonials and reviews, There is also plenty of information about the scientific standpoint written from every view point, including those who swear by alternative, herbal hair loss products and those who are skeptical.

The Truth, My Mom and Hair Loss

The doctors said that its normal to shed hair every day, that's what they told my mom as she gradually went bald, 100-125 hairs just fall from your head on a daily basis. Hello, my name is Joseph and I'm no so called expert but I had to write this article, because it's about someone I love, and it happens to be the truth.

After all the heart ache, embarrassment, jokes, and trials, my mom has a healthy head of hair again, about three years ago my mother (Janie) was working with the Board of Education for Maryland's School system when she passed out at work, she had to be hospitalized and no one knew what the problem was.

Finally she was taken to John Hopkins Hospital where some scans and other tests were performed, a neurologist informed her that she had a rare brain disorder. There is a technical name for it but the most common name is White Matters Disease of the brain, because of this disease Mom (Janie) was give many different treatments, including steroids, and several other medications, that I can't pronounce.

The treatments and medications helped get the disease under control but changed her hormonal balance, made her weight flux, and started thinning out her hair until some patches began to form. It was at that point where my mother (Janie) decided to do something about her hair loss, she told me that, just because she was sick, she didn't have to look like it.

Hiding her hair under wigs and scarves seemed to make the matters worse, she didn't know where to turn so she talked to her doctor and asked me to help her look up some information on the web, and from that point we researched all that we could about hair loss and hair growth.

By doing this we learned some very important facts about hair loss such as, conditions know as hypothyroidism, ringworm and fungal infections can cause hair loss, certain medications such as blood thinners, gout medication, birth control pills, and too much vitamin A can cause sudden or abnormal hair loss, as well as following a crash diet, sudden hormonal changes, chemotherapy and radiation.

Did you know that you can begin to suffer from hair loss and not know it until 2 or 3 months after a stressful situation has occurred? Wearing pigtails, tight cornrows or rollers that pull on the hair can scar the scalp and cause permanent hair loss. Hair products and chemicals used for permanents can cause inflammation to the hair follicles which can also result in scarring and hair loss.

Androgen tic Alopecia or Male Pattern Baldness as it's often called is hereditary in many families and affects some people more than others, men mainly but it affects women as well. Men and women produce testosterone, which can be converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and this causes the hair follicles to shrink, the scalp thickens and restricts the blood flow, so when hair falls out of the scalp it is not replaced.

After a lot of trial and error Mom (Janie) found something that has worked for her, she didn't want surgery or hair plugs, she wanted her hair to grow back naturally so she tried everything from creams and shampoos to over the counter type meds like Propecia and Herbal Growth, just to name a few.

Honestly, there was little or no growth with some of the products and we're talking about a two year period of time, but my mother is much happier with the product she has used more recently simply because it works, even though she's still fighting off the disease, you would never know it because she looks so much healthier and I'm happy because she's happy.

After watching my mom go through all that she did and helping her find the solution to her hair loss, I knew her story would be helpful to other men and women going through the same problem. Thanks for taking the time to read this article, best wishes to you from me.

Thyroid Association With Hair Loss

Firstly hypothyroidism (hypo meaning low)is a condition that doesn't produce enough hormone in the gland. The most common cause of this condition is called Hashimoto's disease, where antibodies attack the thyroid gland causing low hormone production.

What Is Normal Hair Loss - Woman Ask

We all lose between 40 and 120 hairs a day from our head, depending how much hair we have and what our normal hair growth cycle is like. Women with fine hair have more strands than women with coarse hair so they tend to lose more.

The average scalp contains about 100,000 hairs and hair on the head grows about half an inch each month. What is normal hair loss, women often wonder to themselves, worrying about what looks like a lot of hair on the hairbrush or in the shower.

A strand of hair grows for between 2 and 6 years and then fall out. A new hair starts to grow in its place. At any one time, about 15% of the hair is resting and the other 85% is growing. Hair is made up of keratin, which is a type of protein.

A hair consists of the hair shaft, a root beneath the skin and a follicle from which the hair root grows. The hair bulb is under the follicle. This is where the melanin (hair pigment) is produced. Baldness or loss of hair occurs when there is no new hair growing in the place of one that has fallen out.

When it comes to normal hair loss women do vary in the normal shedding amount. If you usually lose 50 strands of hair and you suddenly start losing 100, this can be indicative of a problem. If you can see more of your scalp or your parting seems to be wider, this can also indicate a hair loss problem.

Around 15% of women in the USA suffer from hair loss, which is also known as baldness or alopecia. This often develops gradually and the hair loss might be diffuse (all over) or in certain patches.

Loss of hair is a cosmetic problem. It can also be indicative of an underlying disease or disorder and women suffering from it commonly feel embarrassed or ashamed.

When it comes to normal hair loss women often wonder whether their hair loss is normal or something they should be worrying about. Using harsh shampoos and wearing tight hairstyles or hats can encourage hair loss, as can not getting enough iron in the diet.

Women with long hair often brush their hair and find the brush coated in hairs after just one brushing. Since with normal hair loss, women shed around 100 hairs a day, this is nothing unusual.

The best indicators of a hair loss problem is when more of the scalp seems visible that it was before or you can see bald patchy areas on the scalp.

When worried that their hair loss is not normal hair loss, women should seek the advice of a doctor about what could be causing it.

There are many reasons for hair loss in women including giving birth, the menopause, stress and recovery from an illness. Diagnosing the cause usually means ruling out the things that aren't causing it.

When thinking about normal hair loss women tend to think that 100 hairs a day is excessive but when you think that 100 new hairs will take their place, this is completely normal.

Eliminating Unsightly Hair

Hair shielded prehistoric humans. A plentiful growth acted as a barrier against crawling insects venturing to crawl into bodily crevices; hair also offered warmth and shade. Some people have more than an ample growth while others have them only in tufts or patches.

Isn't it strange that there are people who are willing to spend all out to slow down or restore hair loss while on the other end of the spectrum there are people who are willing to try anything to get rid of unsightly hair from their body.

Nonetheless, in this day and age where humans now typically live indoors, a surfeit of hair has come to be considered as something undesirable. In women, hair found in the underarms, legs, bikini line, neck, and/or face is not only undesirable but is thought of as an indicator of the state of a woman's personal hygiene.

Because of society's view and obsession about unwanted hair found in ladies, numerous hair removal methods are available for those suffering from an excess of hair in the parts of the body enumerated above.
Shaving is believed to be the most handy hair removal method.

Nevertheless, one down side of using a razor to eradicate hair is that the procedure is only temporary, considering that hair removal by shaving only cuts off the offending hair at the skin surface.

Tweezing is another hair removal process. Plucking hair off is painful for most people. Further, hair removal through this method takes so much time considering that one has to pull out the hair one strand at a time. Still one more thing:

Anecdotal evidence pinpoints plucking as one of the major causes of infected sebum glands.
Waxing is a hair removal method that involves applying warmed up waxing strips on the leg and then yanking these strips out. The hair stick to the wax strips.

Laser is thought to be the method that permanently eradicates hair from the skin surface. The method works by zapping melanin, thus dark hair regrowth is suppressed.

If considering laser hair removal, confer with a certified dermatologic doctor to find out more about the pros and risks of this technology. You need to do this for your own safety and protection.

Expert Tips to Help Grow Long Black Hair Fast

Struggling with hair loss or slow hair growth can be frustrating, but there are things you can do to improve your hair's health and appearance.

When followed consistently, many of these suggestions can actually stimulate hair growth. Follow these recommendations to grow long black hair fast.

Did you know that using the wrong styling tools on your hair can contribute to damage and breaking? When picking a hair brush, be sure to select one with natural boar bristles. If you use a comb, make sure it is a wide-tooth comb.

Both of these items improve the appearance and condition of your hair because they help to distribute your hair's natural oil from the scalp all the way to the ends. Simply by using the right tools, you can grow long black hair fast.

Tangles can be a pain to get out, and if you are not careful you can damage your hair trying to get rid of a tangle. It's best to comb your hair periodically during the day to avoid getting tangled hair. If you do get a tangle, work with just one small section of it at a time.

Use short, quick, downward strokes. If you find that you just can't get the knot out, it's best to cut it out carefully. Never use a comb to tease or back comb your hair as this is very damaging.

Split ends are a pain that we all have to deal with. To minimize damage from split ends, you should trim your hair frequently because the damage from a split end will travel up the hair shaft.

If you are still in the process of growing your hair out, it's best to trim off half an inch every three to four months. If you just want to maintain your current length, trim off half an inch every 4 weeks.

Be sure to check your hair frequently for split ends because they are very damaging. Hair with split ends breaks easily and you'll lose more hair if you allow them to linger.

If you find any split ends simply cut them off, one hair at a time using a pair of sharp scissors. By taking control of split ends you can grow long black hair fast.

Tossing and turning during sleep can actually damage your hair as well due to the friction between your hair and the pillow. To avoid damage, wear hair in a braid or sleep cap and use only a satin pillowcase.

Heated styling tools are especially damaging to hair and can hamper your quest to grow long black hair fast. You should avoid using blow dryers, rollers, curling and flat irons, and crimpers. The heat from these tools will dry hair out making it fragile and brittle.

You should also avoid steaming hot showers and vigorous drying of your hair with a towel. This creates friction that can damage hair.

You should also be careful when using hair accessories. Rubber bands are very damaging to hair. They tear at the hair causing damage to the outer layer which ultimately makes hair prone to getting tangled.

Avoid anything with rough or sharp edges, and be careful of hinges because hair can get caught and break. The best hair accessories are soft scrunchies and hair sticks.

Be careful about how you style your hair. If pony tails and braids are too tight, it will cause stress at the root and lead to hair loss.

Avoid any style that requires a lot of pulling and tugging. Growing long black hair fast is possible if you follow these easy suggestions.

5 Powerful Ways To Grow Hair Quick

There is much you can do to increase the growth rate of your hair. For most the average rate of growth is about one half inch a month but this number is just an average and you can do lots to change that.

When it comes to growing a longer mane the strength of the individual hair strands is key. Anything that helps to strengthen your hair strands rather than damage them is essential to quickly growing your hair.

Point is not all hair growth products work to grow a longer mane. So it is my goal to show you simple ways to grow hair quickly in this article

1. You want to get a scalp massage to grow hair quickly. Scalp massages send blood running to your hair roots where they are nourished and can grow at a much faster rate

2. A short hair cut or trim will go a long way to help grow long hair quickly.Trims will take off split and dead ends and the result is that you will have healthier hair, if you do not get rid of split ends, the split ends can infect the newly growing hair follicles. Make sure that when you ask your hair stylist to trim your hair, you ask her to simply dust off the ends of your hair. The best frequency for trims is once every two months

3. Do not over style your hair with heat appliances. These heating tools will only damage your hair even further and as I mentioned a damaged mane is a slow growing mane.

4. Another way to keep your hair healthy is to use a deep oil treatment, like Mira. This type of hair treatment stimulates the scalp and increases blood flow to the hair follicles. This will help keep your hair healthy and shiny.

5. A good way of using Mira hair oil is to apply it into your mane and scalp and allow it to soak in, the best hairstyle to use is a pony tail. Leave it in overnight and then wash it off in the morning. Using the herbal oil in this way allows it to be both a deep conditioner and a hair growth stimulant

When it comes to growing a longer mane quickly you need to stay consistent with the suggestions I just shared with you. You need regular trims, deep oils treatments and scalp massages to help hair grow quick. Follow my simple methods and in a very short time you will have a longer and thicker mane

Remedies That Help Re-Grow Hair

Anyone who has experienced thinning hair knows how painful this can be. Men in particular seem to have a fear of going bald. But this is a condition that also impacts women. Some young men start noticing hair loss during their teens. Women may start losing excess hair as young adults. If it is caused by heredity, it may be more difficult to treat but there is hope thanks to advances in modern medicine.

It is important to make sure that the treatment that you choose is legitimate and not a product that is touted as a miracle cure. There is no real cure but there are remedies that can reverse thinning and help re-grow hair.

Not all treatments will work on everyone. So it may be necessary to try a few different treatments for a while to see which one will work best for you. Just give it time before switching over to another one. Reversing hair loss takes time. It will take months for you to know for sure if a product is working.

One of the most well known treatments for people concerned about going bald is Rogaine. It contains the active ingredient Minoxidil. Studies suggest that this medication is effective in helping people re-grow lost hair. This treatment is available for both men and women.

In some cases, people using this product have reported that it completely stopped their strands from thinning. For other people, the results were not as promising.

Propecia is a treatment that may be effective for people who are in need of something stronger because their condition is more advanced. This medication is available as a pill and has the backing of the FDA.

This one is only available through a prescription. It slows the progression of the condition and stimulates regrowth on the front and crown of the head. If you try either of these treatments, monitor yourself for side effects. It may be necessary to begin with small doses to see how your system responds to it.

Hair loss due to health issues

The hair is the crowning glory of a woman. Hair loss can be quite a traumatic experience for a woman. For many women, being remembered for the days when their hair was long, luxurious and thickness are pleasant memories However, if you had the same experience as Ruth Caton whose  delicate and shining hair started falling abnormally, chances are that you may have some underlying serious medical condition.

Caton soon realized that not only was her hair falling, but that she also experience dizziness  and sudden uncontrollable  weight gain. It took a couple of doctors through various diagnosis to confirm that she suffered from hypothyroidism, a disease pertaining to the  thyroid gland which did not produce enough hormones. After receiving replacement hormones therapy,  Caton's  hair grew and returned back to normal condition

According to Dr Leslie Coker, hair loss affects women in a way that is more traumatic compare to men.  This is not surprising because men who shed and lose hair is considered normal and baldness in men is nothing strange. . The truth of the matter is that "We're not supposed to lose hair, ' according to Dr Leslie, regardless of whether we are a man or a woman.

O ver 30 million women in the United States have experienced hair loss and for some women it might be attributed to early symptoms of chronic medical conditions.  These conditions include anemia, thyroid and polycystic ovarian syndrome also some women may experience hair loss after childbirth, crash diets, emotional stress and surgery.
